“Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” -Ephesians 6:18

Today’s Word:

Have you ever hear the saying, “The family that prays together, stays together.” It is not in the Bible, but there’s certainly some truth to it. This side of heaven, we are all in a spiritual battle. Families, in particular, seem to be a special target for Satan’s rage. Many of our problems can be avoided and overcome with regular prayer.  If you are too busy for family devotions, then don’t let this discourage you from praying each day. Our prayers release God’s Presence and help over each person in our family.

Praying Fathers & Husbands

For the husbands and fathers, they have a unique role of authority as head of their household. That position gives them a powerful place in prayer before God’s throne. Like an umbrella that covers our heads in a storm, so the man of a household is like a spiritual covering. His prayers for his wife and children will release many blessings and be like a protective shield from demonic trouble.  As the priest of his household, if he neglects his prayers, then slowly small rips and tears can come into the “umbrella” or covering, and much demonic distress can settle on the family. In God’s eyes, it is not enough for the man to only earn the money, since part of the man’s call is a spiritual one. It doesn’t count if he says, “Oh my dear wife, you pray. You are the spiritual one of the family.” The wife’s prayers are not a substitute for the husband’s: both are needed. Every believing man should make some time to specifically pray for and bless his wife, and each of his children every day. By serving the family in a spiritual way, a special gift of unity come to the marriage relationship and many difficulties are lifted and avoided.

Praying Mothers & Wives

A woman is anointed and called by God as a helpmate to her husband and a nurturer to her children. There is probably nothing more dangerous to the devil than a praying mother. The compassion with which a mother intercedes is a force that can’t be reckoned with, and makes for prayer that prevails. As wives, the prayers for her husband have instant recognition from God because of her role as his helpmate. Blessing, releasing strength, and proclaiming scriptures over your spouse will result in surprising answers. Even small prayers bring big results.  Also, a special bonding will happen when you pray for your partner, and love goes a long way to sweeten and overcome tensions.

As one pastor suggested, if the husband and wife are on the same schedule, before you get out of bed in the morning grab each others hand, and just take one minute to lift up prayer. This helps to build and strengthen unity in the marriage relationship. If your schedules are not the same, then see if you can find some other time during the week. Even if it’s just one or two times, be diligent to find the opportunity where you can to join hands and hearts to pray together.

Praying Children

Encourage your kids to talk to God. Teach them to remember their family members before the Lord. Children are so precious in His sight, and He will take great care to respond to their requests. When the answers come, make sure you point out to your child’s attention the Lord’s responses. This will build up the faith of the whole family.

Scripture:

“Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.” -1 Peter 3:7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:6-7

Forgiven.
