I hope this note finds you by an ocean, or lake, or river. And if nothing else, maybe a pool. Somewhere you can get refreshed beneath the sun’s warming smile.
You know we’ve got to keep our smiles. Why? Because as Dr. Bruce Thompson says, “Joy is a sign of life.” This joy belongs to you and me, even if our circumstances haven’t carried us to a salty seashore. David in the psalms wrote, “In Your presence is fullness of joy.” Joy can be yours no matter what’s happening around you.
I recently read an article in BBC detailing the struggle Americans are having buying groceries*. Inflation has delivered a 25% increase in the cost of food. Many families just can’t afford this, so they are taking out high interest loans just to make ends meet. And some are decreasing their food intake, i.e. eating 2 meals a day instead of 3.
You will already know about this problem if you live in America. Let’s keep our eyes open to help those who are struggling. Someone once said that “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
- You can give a bag of groceries.
- Share what you have.
- Give someone a gift card for food.
- Share a local address and phone number to an active food bank.
Even if you’re having a hard time, let’s remember the words of Jesus, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 Which means there are blessings that only get released when you stretch yourself.

Drawing near to God is what He put on my heart for you today. I am sharing a partial excerpt from my “Draw Near” devotional for you:
“My precious child, I am not the God who stands far away from you, I am the God who is near and my ear is open to your cry. My name is Immanuel, which means, ‘God with you’. When you feel that no one understands, remember that I completely understand and extend my open arms to your concerns. Pour out your heart to Me… Have I not told you, that I AM the Wonderful Counselor, the One Who will instruct you day and night. I will show you what you are to do but then you must let Me do what only I can do. Draw near to Me now, for I am waiting for you.”
