The most deadly wildfire in California history has destroyed a total area of nearly 1,667,855 acres. Though the fires have been contained, an enormous task is under way for those who lost their homes and loved ones, as well as recovery efforts by local and state officials.
Rain was a welcome relief, but it brings with it new challenges: the risks of flooding and mudslides. There is also health concerns in various communities.
Let’s pray:
- For everyone affected by this fire to encounter the Living God, who has compassion on them.
- Comfort, wisdom, and provision for families who have lost their homes.
- Comfort for the families of those who have died.
- Pray that those unaccounted for will be found.
- Protection against diseases in the shelters of housing evacuees.
- Protection for search and rescue workers as they continue to search for missing persons.
- Wisdom for government leaders who oversee land management in California.
God of all comfort, we come to you on behalf of all those affected of the California wildfire. We ask that every single person will experience a revelation of Your mercy and compassion in a life-changing way. We pray that wisdom will be given on rebuilding their lives and that needed provision would get to them speedily. Please heal and protect those who are still in shelters from any disease.
We pray for the families who have lost loved ones in the fire. May You give them peace that passes understanding and healing as they adjust to their loss. For those who are still missing and unaccounted for, we pray that You would guide the rescue workers in finding them. We trust in Your guidance and protection in this.
Going forward, we ask that You would inspire government leaders in how to help those who have lost everything. We pray for wisdom as they address land management issues and that You will help them know how to prevent this tragedy from happening again.
Lord, You have promised to heal the land when Your people turn to you in prayer and repentance; so embolden and inspire the church of California to pray and seek Your face. And we join with them too, knowing that we shall see Your goodness revealed.

Thank you so much for this prayer and for sharing it with us all so we can join our hearts and our spirits with the Jesus Christ for all those affected. I will continue to pray. This is so sad for many reasons but for our God in Christ who can bring beauty in all sorts of ways out of the ashes. Thank you, again, Kathleen.
